This is such a load of crap, but I am posting it here because it may cause ripples in the show's future. Why can't Isaiah just move on? Ugh. Seriously?! "Thanks" to TVGuide.com.

Isaiah Washington, who is currently lensing a movie in New Orleans, reportedly was taken aback to see himself featured (via a newspaper clipping that raises Cristina's barely-there eyebrows) in the spot promoting the May 8 ep of Grey's Anatomy.

Noting that "Isaiah has no plans to go back" to the series, the actor's rep tells TMZ, "We were more than a little surprised that ABC used his likeness in a promo... and indeed advanced his character's storyline." (Dr. Burke is the recipient of an high honor that throws his former fiancée for a loop.) Adds the spokesman, "Mr. Washington's attorney has contacted the Screen Actors Guild and ABC as to the appropriateness of that action."

How difficult was it for you to have to let Isaiah go, on a personal level?
Shonda Rhimes: It wasn't. It was a decision that was a long time in coming, and it felt like it was the right decision for all of us.

Given everything that transpired during the hiatus, did you feel the need to give the cast a pep talk on the first day back?
Rhimes: No. They're a group of real professionals who really rose to the occasion last season, and really delivered some amazingly powerhouse performances at a time when we were all sort of having an emotionally hard time. So, I feel like, no, we're a family. Nobody needed a pep talk.

So, the decision to fire Isaiah was not something that was imposed on you?
Rhimes: The great thing about [ABC Studios head] Mark Pedowitz and [ABC president] Steve McPherson is they never imposed anything on me.

So you agreed with the decision?
Rhimes: Of course I did.

Would you have written the season finale differently if that stuff hadn't happened during the season?
Rhimes: I wrote the season-ender exactly as I planned to write the season-ender. What's kind of amazing is the season-ender finished the story of Preston Burke that really paid tribute to that character and the talent of Isaiah Washington in a way that made sense. But also went exactly where our show was planning to go anyway.

You were quoted as saying it was disturbing the thought that one black actor could be replaced with another. Do you have any second thoughts about saying that, particularly in light of the recent recast on Private Practice?
Rhimes: No, I think there's a point there. I think that Preston Burke, the character that audiences have come to know and love for three seasons, it's very different. And at a time which there was some talk of, 'Let's cast this actor or that actor... " sort of naming a bunch of black actors... as if the only thing that was important about the character of Preston Burke was his race. That was disturbing to me. It's a very different situation from the enhanced [two-hour episode of Grey's], which was our version of a pilot. Pilots get recast all the time. Ours just happened to air. It wasn't a matter of needing to find another black actor. It was a matter of, Audra McDonald is the person we want.

Do you understand that there were people that interpreted this as you turning a homophobic incident into a racial incident?
Rhimes: I do now. Absolutely. But I do think that [specific] discussion was disturbing to me -- as disturbing as the entire incident that happened for T.R. and Isaiah.

In retrospect, do you wish you had spoken out sooner about the whole thing?
Rhimes: Here's the thing. I know for you guys it's incredibly frustrating that I didn't say something. And I'm kind of sorry, because I know you guys have stories to tell. For me, the story we have to tell is the story of the show, and my instinct when something like this happened is to sort of close the doors and hunker down with people that are my family and protect them as much as possible. The outside world became far less important to me than those people that I work with every day. And making sure that those people that I work with are OK. I wasn't worried about the outside world. The outside world's not something that I can control. But the people I work with every day were. And I really was spending my time dealing with that, not dealing with whether or not I should make a statement.

When was the moment when you realized, 'You know, we're going to have to make a change here?'
Rhimes: Again, I feel like this is stuff that happened in our family, and I don't want to give specifics on sort of how and what happened. But there was a moment when I was sure and felt good and comfortable about the decision and that it was the right decision to be made for everybody.

How are things between you and T.R. now?
Rhimes: We're good. I feel like everybody is working really well together. T.R. is doing some amazing work. We're moving forward. We're excited about the stories we're telling this season. It feels like they're fresh... and we're going with the idea that we want to have a little bit more fun this season.

There seems to be a lot of in-fighting at Grey's. Do you think you can do anything differently in terms of managing that set?
Rhimes: Well, I don't know. I've never run a television show before, so I only know one way to run a television show, which is: you have an enormously talented group of people; you become enormously popular way faster than you ever thought was going to happen; and then you swim.

Switching gears, were you surprised by the strong reaction to George/Izzie?
Rhimes: I had a strong reaction to George and Izzie.

A strong negative reaction?
Rhimes: I wasn't sure I was ready for it. I don't think anybody's ready for it. I don't know if George and Izzie are ready for it. He's married, and she said some really harsh things. I feel like if you follow our characters you know that they're flawed, they're human, they make mistakes. Sometimes mistakes are the absolute right decision and sometimes mistakes are the absolute wrong one. It's a really interesting relationship to explore.

Appearing on Monday's Larry King Live, Isaiah Washington served up what many of us have been clamoring for: a blow-by-blow account of exactly what transpired on the Grey's Anatomy set last October 9. In Washington's version, T.R. Knight was nowhere near the line of fire; rather, the conflict was focused on a different cast member. "Although I love Patrick Dempsey, I have to clear the air and tell what happened," Washington said to Larry King, launching into his version of events:

Prior to October 9, while filming the "Where the Boys Are"/fishing episode, Washington was concerned that by Dempsey extending a shoot day, it appeared that the show's two "titans" were taking advantage of crew members. Washington, though, didn’t vent his frustration at the time — "[and] I was kicking myself for it."

Come October 9, Dempsey was again late to the set. "I'm mad," Washington recalls. "[But] I didn’t say anything [the previous time], so what am I going to say now?" After denying that he was even late, Dempsey said he needed to wait for Ellen Pompeo, who was to feed the actors lines from off camera. "[Patrick] said, 'I need Ellen.' I said, 'Well, I don’t need Ellen. I can act.'" That perceived slight ratcheted the tension to a new and different level. "He became unhinged," Washington says of Dempsey. "[We were] face to face, spittle to spittle. I was like, 'Why am I being berated to this point in front of our crew?' I pushed him out of my face and it took off from there."

Enter the F-word. "I said several bad words," Isaiah admits. "I said, 'There's no way you're going to treat me like a 'b-word,' a 'p-word' or 'the f-word.' You can't treat me that way in front of our crew."

Washington maintained the f-word was "never, never, never" aimed at T.R. Knight, and said that his definition of the word at the time was "someone who is weak, not deserving of respect." Tabloid reports that the fracas was centered on Knight and his sexuality "couldn’t be further from the truth," says Washington.

Why, then, did Knight come out of the closet, and subsequently offer a different version of events on Ellen? "That's the $5 million question," Washington told King. "He misrepresented himself." (Knight and Dempsey, who are allegedly under a gag order from ABC, had no comment for Larry King Live.)

Toward the end of the Q&A, Washington seemed to get emotional when asked which cast mates have lent their support, saying that he had received "a wonderful email from Sandra Oh," for example. But he doesn't expect more public support from his peers, "because of where they are. Disney is paying their bills, and you don’t mess with the Mouse. Everyone did what they had to do."

And of the person who actually leaked what may have been an inaccurate account of the October 9 to-do to the tabloids, Washington said this: "I really hope that person got paid, man. That was the stroke of death for me."

Here's an interesting tidbit of news that I ran across when reading either People or InTouch this morning: according to the magazine, Shonda Rhimes is actually really good friends with Isaiah Washington, and fought for his job on the show. I can believe that to an extent. What I can't believe is this next part: Shonda is contemplating creating a show just for Isaiah. And...that was the extent of the article. Can I just say that Shonda's already got enough under her belt with one hit show, another show premiering in the fall, and yet another show placed on the backburner (where it's been for...years)? Plus, she'd have to travel to a different network for this show, because Lord knows ABC won't work with Isaiah again, and vice versa. I'm hoping that this magazine is, well, wrong.
Here's the more exciting news: the anticipated return date for Grey's is September 27. This isn't confirmed and could be changed (and I wouldn't be surprised...it seems really late - however, a late start means less re-runs). The show goes back into production sometime this month, so details surrounding the new season (including the title of the premiere, air date, promotional photos and videos) should begin surfacing within the next six weeks, so stay tuned!

Isaiah Washington's latest interview — this time given to Newsweek — has the disgraced former Grey's Anatomy star saying that racism (also?) factored into his firing. "It didn't help me on the set that I was a black man who wasn't a mush-mouth Negro walking around with his head in his hands all the time," the actor tells the mag. "Someone heard the booming voice of a black man and got really scared, and that was the beginning of the end for me."

Washington even claims that a person in ABC human resources once told him "that 'some people' were afraid of me. I asked her why, because I'm a 6-foot-1 black man... who doesn't go around saying, 'Yessah, massa sir' and 'No sir, massa' to everyone?"

ABC declined comment on this latest beat in the sordid story.

This upcoming Monday, July 2, Isaiah Washington will have his first post-firing interview on CNN's Larry King Live, where he will talk about how he is upset about being fired and how
TR Knight is the one causing all of the problems on set. Larry will probably also ask him about the new film he is working on (which is apparently why it took him this long to do an interview) and how NBC is now courting him for a new series on their network (good luck to them with that).
I find it interesting that now that Washington has been fired, he is passing all of the blame onto someone else and still causing issues even though he is no longer on the set. There's also the fact that everything he's saying contradicts what everyone else still on the show is saying. Poor TR; poor cast. Hopefully they can make it through this - I'm sure they can.

This story has more wrinkles than Abe Vigoda. In a candid interview with the Houston Chronicle, Isaiah Washington says, "They fired the wrong guy," positing that contrary to popular belief, the gay slur he spewed during the infamous on-set row with Patrick Dempsey was not aimed squarely at T.R. Knight, though the now-out Grey's Anatomy cast member has said that it was. "That's a lie," Washington says, suggesting that Knight was the one responsible for creating a negative workplace environment, and used the incident as leverage for increases in pay and amount of screen time.

As first hinted in TVGuide.com's Ausiello Report, Washington confirms he is pondering a lawsuit against ABC, saying, "My livelihood, my honor, my dignity and my name have been so challenged." He then cops to making three errors in judgment: "Believing the cast... were like family; believing I had the freedom to express myself with family and that we could resolve our issues; and trusting ABC was going to take care of me."

Dear God. So now that he's been fired, it's TR's fault? Not only does that not make any sense, it just makes him look like a worse person. Drop it and get over it for God's sake.

EW.com (Entertainment Weekly) has been incredibly kind and has sent us their exclusive story to share with you here at Grey Gossip and TSGA. EW was lucky enough to be the first to get Isaiah's first post-firing interview...and he doesn't seem mad at all.

Controversial Grey's Anatomy star Isaiah Washington speaks exclusively with Entertainment Weekly's website EW.com about being fired from the hit ABC drama, his relationship with the show's cast and crew, and his future in Hollywood.

Plus: He answers questions like whether he will come back to the show in the fall to wrap up any loose ends. "That's really up to who ever made the decisions at ABC. I know [executive producer] Shonda [Rhimes] was happy with what I was doing and I thought I did everything possible in this past year to make things work, but I guess someone at ABC didn't think so," says Washington.

How does he feel about what happened last week and does he think it was fair? "I don't know if it's a question of ‘fair’. I'm saddened by the outcome," he says. "I did everything that the producers and the network asked me to do. I came back under great duress and stress, and thought I was doing the job I was hired to do. I thought that was going to speak for my future at Grey's, but apparently that wasn't the same vision that the network and studio had for me."

Has he heard from any of his castmates? "No," Washington says. "Everyone is still on vacation. I don't expect to hear from my castmates. I did talk to Chandra Wilson and I got a text message from Kate Walsh. Everyone's doing their own thing. People are still trying to enjoy their summer before they get back to the grind. I think a lot of people are out of the country. I'm still getting calls from people discovering that this change has occurred."

Multiple sources are telling me that Isaiah Washington will not be returning to Grey's Anatomy next season. An ABC Studios spokesperson confirms that the actor's contract option has not been picked up, but declined further comment.

One insider, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation, speculated that the decision was likely due only in part to the T.R. Knight homophobic slur scandal and the subsequent fallout. "There was a pattern of problematic behavior going back before he used the F-word," says my spy. "I imagine [his dismissal] was the result of all of that."

Washington's rep, Howard Bragman, confirmed the news, adding that his client was informed by Grey's executive producer Shonda Rhimes earlier today that he was not being invited back to the show. In a statement, Washington, referencing the iconic line from Network, said, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore." (He's kidding... I think.)

Plot-wise, it won't be difficult to explain Washington's absence. In last month's season finale, Burke left Cristina at the altar and moved out of their apartment.

Personally, I think this is what's best for the show. Tension should be gone (or, at least, significantly less) on the set, it opens up a ton more storylines (but...what will BangsAnatomy.com do now?), and this isn't the first time Isaiah's caused a scandal. Is Isaiah Washington leaving Grey's Anatomy?
I've now heard from various reliable sources that Isaiah has been taking meetings in New York and Los Angeles in search of a new job that would take place during the coming TV season, so it certainly appears that Isaiah's Grey's days are over. Insiders at ABC tell me "not everyone will be coming back" to Grey's this fall, and although T.R. Knight's fate was also left hanging in the balance after the season finale, I'm hearing he's gonna be back (gotta wrap up that love triangle, not to mention his betrothed is the new chief!) but like I said, Isaiah looks to be a goner. (Kinda makes that scene of Cristina ripping the shackle off her neck while sobbing "I'm free" and the Chief's lecture to Burke that he's "disappointed" in him this year all the more poignant, no?)
I don't know if you've had a chance to watch the Grey's Anatomy finale yet, but it was so depressing and illogical that I'm not watching anymore, I'm done. Shonda promised things in her blogs, podcasts and interviews that never came to fruition.
I was DVRless in NYC and could not wait to get home because (a) Grey’s was waiting for me and (b) so was my b-f (yes, my priorities are straight!), and I have to admit, I, too, was disappointed. Mer-Der drama = nonsensical. Burke-Tina shenanigans = weird. Even the Gizzie scenes made me cringe, and I love those two! Still, I am keeping the faith Grey’s turns it around next season. Upfronts continued today, and today was the big day - ABC's day! As predicted, there wasn't much surprising news - Grey's Anatomy is sticking to its highly successful Thursdays-at-9 timeslot, while Private Practice is indeed going to Wednesdays-at-9. The one confusing thing here, however, is that Lost will be returning mid-season, still on Wednesdays, but not in its current Wednesdays-at-10 timeslot. ABC wants to move it up an hour or two. So, what does this mean for Private Practice? We don't know just yet.
Also, Grey's Anatomy will be getting a new show airing after it, entitled Big Shots. Here is the description for Big Shots from TVGuide.com:

However, the biggest news of the morning was the answers given to the question of it someone will be leaving Grey's this/next season. Here's what Kristin at E! Online reports:

As reporters met with McPherson at ABC headquarters this a.m., the most asked question was about Grey's Anatomy's on-set scandal, and whether Isaiah Washington or T.R. Knight might be leaving the show. The answers ranged from "At this point, nothing's been decided" to "The show will return intact next season" to "Most of the cast will return." Call it a hunch, but something tells me a main castmember may indeed be leaving—or at the very least, left cliff-hanging at the end of the season.

So, if someone is leaving, we'll definitley find out either Thursday during the season finale, Didn't We Almost Have It All?, or by the season premiere this fall. Stay tuned for more information on this, and stick with us the rest of the week as we weigh-in on the rest of the networks' upfronts!

So, let's go ahead and get the depressing news out of the way: Shonda is not writing the finale Didn't We Almost Have It All? I know, I know. It totally sucks. But she isn't. Instead, the writers of last year's amazing Deterioration of the Fight or Flight Response are writing it - Tony Phelan & Joan Rater.
Now, let's go ahead and get these depressing rumors out of the way: These are the same rumors we've heard before, but now they're getting bigger coverage because some of them are true. According to an article in the National Enquirer, Isaiah Washington AND TR Knight are BOTH leaving Grey's. In the finale, Burke is said to get passed over as chief and leave Cristina at the altar, paving the way for him to leave. George is said to have failed his boards and doesn't want to re-do his internships, paving his way off Grey's. Derek is said to not be sure about his relationship with Meredith, because there "might be another woman." And Jane Doe's husband arrives. According to Michael Ausiello, some of those are true. But he won't say which ones. Hopefully, only the one about Jane Doe is true. However, I could see the IW one being true, although I really hope that doesn't happen.
Alright, depressing news is over. On to some happy things! We were all disappointed at the fact that this year's finale would only be an hour, but, in fact, it is a little longer. Not one-and-a-half or two. But, it is a 67-minute finale...a little bit longer!

Kristin from E! Online brings you the scoop that debunks the rumor that TR Knight (George) and Isaiah Washington (Burke) were leaving Grey's Anatomy. Here it is:

If you happen to be a fan of Grey's Anatomy and also read the National Enquirer report that Isaiah Washington and T.R. Knight would be leaving the show, I have two words for you: ¡Calmate, tigre! (Translation: Settle down, putty tat.)

From what I'm hearing, there is no reason to panic.

Sources close to the show tell me that unless this is the most guarded secret ever regarding Grey's Anatomy (these sources are so inside they knew about Denny's death months before it happened), the rumors of T.R. and Isaiah's departure are completely bunk.

According to Grey's insiders, both T.R. (George) and Isaiah (Burke) are under contract for next season and expected to return. And while Isaiah's rep declined comment (saying, "We’re going to do our business in private and not in the media"), T.R.'s rep says the rumors are "completely untrue."

Of course, what departure rumor is true is that Kate Walsh (Addison) is leaving Grey's Anatomy next month, assuming her pilot, Private Practice, is picked up by ABC. And sources at the Alphabet net tell me it is looking promising for a green light.

But before she leaves, you'll never guess (or, okay, maybe you will) what long-awaited, tongue-wag-worthy ac-shun we're gonna get.

Isaiah Washington may be on his way out.

I just received word from a highly placed source within the Touchstone/ABC family that ABC and Disney executives are currently considering the option of firing Isaiah Washington from Grey's Anatomy, effective immediately, without having him appear in any kind of farewell episode.

According to this reliable source, if the network does follow through with this option, the producers are likely to run a full-screen announcement at the beginning of the first Burke-less episode that announces Isaiah Washington is no longer part of the show.

I'm also told by various sources that the loss of Preston Burke is not an easy task for Grey's writing staff to deal with, given that he has a major storyline (including a life-changing event) coming in the next few episodes that airs during February sweeps. Those episodes have already been shot.

So now what do you think of Isaiah being fired? At the moment, I'm reconsidering, and not sure. Let us know your thoughts!

According to the IMDb, an online petition was sent Wednesday to the executives at ABC with over 8,000 signatures saying that Isaiah Washington should be fired. This is a big deal I'm sure for them, but I do wonder: will 8,000 signatures out of a show with 25 million viewers each week persuade ABC to fire Washington? We'll just have to wait and see. Stay tuned!

"I apologize to T.R., my colleagues, the fans of the show and especially the lesbian and gay community for using a word that is unacceptable in any context or circumstance. By repeating the word Monday night, I marred what should have been a perfect night for everyone who works on Grey's Anatomy. I can neither defend nor explain my behavior. I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I've asked for help.

I know the power of words, especially those that demean. I realize that by using one filled with disrespect I have hurt more than T.R. and my colleagues. With one word, I've hurt everyone who has struggled for the respect so many of us take for granted. I welcome the chance to meet with leaders of the gay and lesbian community to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I’ve opened.

T.R.'s courage throughout this entire episode speaks to his tremendous character. I hold his talent, and T.R. as a person, in high esteem. I know a mere apology will not end this, and I intend to let my future actions prove my sincerity."

Therefore, we are greatly dismayed that Mr. Washington chose to use such inappropriate language at the Golden Globes, that he himself deemed 'unfortunate' in his previous public apology. We take this situation very seriously, and his actions are unacceptable and are being addressed."
