That's great about Mer/Der getting back together for good this season, but what about Seattle Grace's other star-crossed duo — you know, Gizzie? It's with overwhelming joy deep regret that I inform you that Gizzie is no more. Sources confirm that the ill-conceived plot twist suffocated to death under the weight of its own absurdity shortly after the writers returned to work last month. A private memorial service was held in early March at the home of Shonda Rhimes. In lieu of flowers, fans are asked to keep the "thank gods" to a low roar….
Got any clue as to what's going to happen when Addison returns to Grey's Anatomy? I've actually got a big clue and here it is: Addison just so happens to stop by Seattle Grace on the same day a patient is admitted to the hospital with a neo-natal-type emergency. What are the odds?!

According to one of our sources, there's going to be a triangle between, yup, you guessed it: Meredith, Derek, and Rose. The source continues on, telling us that while George and Izzie may not be back together by the end of this season, seedlings of a reunion between the couple (lubby-dubby wise) will be planted by at least mid-next season (Gizzie haters rejoice!). They also say that Mark will continue to not have a really big storyline during the course of this season, but that we should expect one next season. All of this information, I'm going to assume, is based on the fact that the writer's strike will end and season four will get a few more episodes in. And if it doesn't, well, all this goes down the pot...

Last Thursday's Grey's Anatomy was the episode of the season so far! Was Brooke Smith (Dr. Hahn) the one-off guest star promoted to series regular you were referring to? Yep, she sure was. Are they going do be doing anything with McSteamy's storyline on Grey's anytime soon? A new love interest possibly? Call me crazy, but I have a hunch that he's the mystery doc Brooke Smith said would be crushing on Dr. Hahn in a future episode. I said call me crazy, not that. In the Oct. 10 AA, you said Lauren Stamile would be Derek's new love interest on Grey's Anatomy, but I haven't seen any other spoilers to support this. Are you fact-checking my stories? If so, where the hell were you during that whole Damages debacle? In any event, there's no need to vet my Stamile item; she's definitely coming in as a love interest for Patrick Dempsey. In fact, their first date is scheduled for Nov. 15.

This George and Izzie thing is getting depressingly gross. When will it end? Certainly not tomorrow night, when the two of them decide to have sex for the first time without being drunk. Unfortunately for them — but fortunately for us — an obstacle stands in their way. Hint: Removing said obstacle requires a sharp object that can be found at your local CVS.

What's going on with George and Izzie on Grey's? Are they breaking up or not?!

I honestly don't know what to believe anymore. After my interview with Shonda Rhimes at the Emmys, I thought for sure she was pulling the plug on this ill-conceived romance. But yesterday I got an unconfirmed tip that Gizzie is still alive and kicking in Episode 8. That's right — 8! That means we've got at least five more weeks of these two! My mole also reports that in the same episode, Mer and Der are still going strong with their whole let's-have-sex-but-not-be-super-serious thing.

Did Shonda Rimes mislead everyone? Is she reviving Gizzie instead of killing it? It sure looked that way in the premiere and the preview for this week's episode.

You should know by now that those promos only tell half the story. Take it from someone who has seen the entire episode — that's me! — Gizzie is dealt a setback this Thursday when George chooses… um… let's just say he makes an important decision that sets the stage for Episode 3, "Let the Truth Sting." Keep in mind, Shonda strongly hinted that Gizzie wouldn't start to come undone until news of their fling made its way around Seattle Grace. I believe what you witnessed in last week's opener was the snuggle before the s**tstorm. Another scoopbit: Derek also makes a decision at the end of the episode, and it's one that'll make all you Mer-Der fans swoon.
Can you please provide some Grey's Anatomy scoop? Preferably on whether or not Cristina will get a new love interest.

Before she can get a new love interest, she has to purge the old one from her system. And she'll do just that this Thursday when Mama Burke drops by Seattle Grace to administer a dose of tough love. And Cristina isn't the only person she goes all Dr. Phil on. As I teased in this week's Ausiello Report vodcast, Diahann Carroll takes Meredith to task for the "selfish" and "inappropriate" thing she did in last May's season finale. And don't even think of asking me for a hint. You know full well what thing I'm referring to.
I hear you've seen this week's Grey's. Please tell me it's better than the season premiere. Izzie tending to a deer? WTF?

OMG, I totally forgot to tell you the most important thing about Thursday's installment: It's fraktacular! If you were longing for the good ol' Grey's, I'm happy to tell you it makes a triumphant comeback tomorrow night. It had all the snap, crackle and pop of a Season 2 episode. And speaking of triumphs, Chandra Wilson gives a performance that has "2008 Emmy Reel" written all over it. I know it's early, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that supporting-actress trophy is hers to lose.

Who won the Emmy Prediction Smackdown? Do we get the scoop?
We were impressively in synch, but if my calculations are correct, I won by one, thanks to Ms. Heigl's win. (Woo!) However, since it was so darn close, I will go ahead and tell you who says "I love you, too." It is George. And it is not to Callie. I know. Gaaah!

In a new interview, Sara Ramirez has eluded to Callie dealing with George & Izzie's affair in a "shocking and empowering" way...which equals sex. But...sex with who? Alex, as has been rumored? Or, could it be Mark - again? We'll just have to wait and see.
On another note, in the same interview, Sara says this about the new season, which sounds incredibly promising:

"You know a lot of people last year had complaints about the direction of the show. It was dark. It was much darker than the previous two seasons and as a fan of the show myself I felt compelled at times to speak up and say, 'No no no! Put Derek and Meredith in the bed until they fix this!' or 'Stop with the cheating!', but if everything was perfect then that would be a happy ending and the story would be complete. So, I'm in it as a fan and an actor and I can honestly tell you that this new season is funnier, lighter, and several of the characters wake up. There's an awakening and it leads to new couples, new friends, and new paths. And those paths are very interesting."

Okay, girl, dish it! You said you’d spill in the chat about the line at the end of the first episode of Grey’s that shocked you...You'd better not forget!
Like I would! It is burned into my brain! That line is “I love you, too.” And although a year ago, the thought of this storyline may have made me squee, I personally am not really happy about who says it and to whom—as a recently married woman and all. (Wow, that was weird! My italics button just clicked itself on as though that last line was a big giveaway or something...Nutty!)

There's exactly one month to go until the all-new season of Grey's Anatomy will be thrust upon us, and to celebrate this occasion, we've (well...technically Kristin) has some wonderfully delicious scoop for you. According to Kristin, the one line that made her heart jump in the premiere episode A Change is Gonna Come is "I Love You Too." We don't who said it to who, but...it's got to be George and Izzie...right? And if it is...then what's with all the rumors about their relationship ending? I guess we'll have to wait and see...

How difficult was it for you to have to let Isaiah go, on a personal level?
Shonda Rhimes: It wasn't. It was a decision that was a long time in coming, and it felt like it was the right decision for all of us.

Given everything that transpired during the hiatus, did you feel the need to give the cast a pep talk on the first day back?
Rhimes: No. They're a group of real professionals who really rose to the occasion last season, and really delivered some amazingly powerhouse performances at a time when we were all sort of having an emotionally hard time. So, I feel like, no, we're a family. Nobody needed a pep talk.

So, the decision to fire Isaiah was not something that was imposed on you?
Rhimes: The great thing about [ABC Studios head] Mark Pedowitz and [ABC president] Steve McPherson is they never imposed anything on me.

So you agreed with the decision?
Rhimes: Of course I did.

Would you have written the season finale differently if that stuff hadn't happened during the season?
Rhimes: I wrote the season-ender exactly as I planned to write the season-ender. What's kind of amazing is the season-ender finished the story of Preston Burke that really paid tribute to that character and the talent of Isaiah Washington in a way that made sense. But also went exactly where our show was planning to go anyway.

You were quoted as saying it was disturbing the thought that one black actor could be replaced with another. Do you have any second thoughts about saying that, particularly in light of the recent recast on Private Practice?
Rhimes: No, I think there's a point there. I think that Preston Burke, the character that audiences have come to know and love for three seasons, it's very different. And at a time which there was some talk of, 'Let's cast this actor or that actor... " sort of naming a bunch of black actors... as if the only thing that was important about the character of Preston Burke was his race. That was disturbing to me. It's a very different situation from the enhanced [two-hour episode of Grey's], which was our version of a pilot. Pilots get recast all the time. Ours just happened to air. It wasn't a matter of needing to find another black actor. It was a matter of, Audra McDonald is the person we want.

Do you understand that there were people that interpreted this as you turning a homophobic incident into a racial incident?
Rhimes: I do now. Absolutely. But I do think that [specific] discussion was disturbing to me -- as disturbing as the entire incident that happened for T.R. and Isaiah.

In retrospect, do you wish you had spoken out sooner about the whole thing?
Rhimes: Here's the thing. I know for you guys it's incredibly frustrating that I didn't say something. And I'm kind of sorry, because I know you guys have stories to tell. For me, the story we have to tell is the story of the show, and my instinct when something like this happened is to sort of close the doors and hunker down with people that are my family and protect them as much as possible. The outside world became far less important to me than those people that I work with every day. And making sure that those people that I work with are OK. I wasn't worried about the outside world. The outside world's not something that I can control. But the people I work with every day were. And I really was spending my time dealing with that, not dealing with whether or not I should make a statement.

When was the moment when you realized, 'You know, we're going to have to make a change here?'
Rhimes: Again, I feel like this is stuff that happened in our family, and I don't want to give specifics on sort of how and what happened. But there was a moment when I was sure and felt good and comfortable about the decision and that it was the right decision to be made for everybody.

How are things between you and T.R. now?
Rhimes: We're good. I feel like everybody is working really well together. T.R. is doing some amazing work. We're moving forward. We're excited about the stories we're telling this season. It feels like they're fresh... and we're going with the idea that we want to have a little bit more fun this season.

There seems to be a lot of in-fighting at Grey's. Do you think you can do anything differently in terms of managing that set?
Rhimes: Well, I don't know. I've never run a television show before, so I only know one way to run a television show, which is: you have an enormously talented group of people; you become enormously popular way faster than you ever thought was going to happen; and then you swim.

Switching gears, were you surprised by the strong reaction to George/Izzie?
Rhimes: I had a strong reaction to George and Izzie.

A strong negative reaction?
Rhimes: I wasn't sure I was ready for it. I don't think anybody's ready for it. I don't know if George and Izzie are ready for it. He's married, and she said some really harsh things. I feel like if you follow our characters you know that they're flawed, they're human, they make mistakes. Sometimes mistakes are the absolute right decision and sometimes mistakes are the absolute wrong one. It's a really interesting relationship to explore.

Well, that was fast. Right after posting the below post, I ran across this bit of info from SpoilerFix.com, and boy is it freakin' exciting:

• I'm hearing [that George and Callie's relationship] is proving quite a difficult puzzle for Shonda Rhimes, who is fully aware of the fan backlash over last season's George and Izzie hookup and has been doing quite a few rewrites.
• Executives tied to the show say the fourth-season plan is to add several cast members, including at least one fresh-faced new intern: Meredith Grey's half-sister Lexi (Chyler Leigh) will become a frequent presence with a multi-episode story arc. They are also seeking a new recurring male character to compete with Patrick Dempsey's Dr. McDreamy.
• Clara, who is with her two young children, discuss the status of her husband Henry with one of the doctors. Henry has suffered extremely traumatic injuries during a car accident. The doctor says that the only thing holding Henry's head to his body is skin and muscle and that he will surely died very soon, even with surgery. A boy brings a near-dead racoon to Seattle Grace in the hope they will be able to save it. His father wants his son to grow up and stop living in a make-believe world. Some of the doctors need to deal with new stressed out interns. One of the interns will help deliver a baby.

Is Isaiah Washington leaving Grey's Anatomy?

If he is, ABC is doing a really good job of keeping a lid on it. This much I know for sure: At the end of next Thursday's episode, Burke starts to have some serious reservations about marrying Cristina. And you're never going to believe whom he turns to for advice. (Hint: They had a little dust-up at the Golden Globes.)
On Grey's, will Jane Doe get an actual identity before the end of the season?

I hear she's getting an actual hubby in the season finale, so it stands to reason that her identity is part of the package.
It seems that, on Grey's Anatomy, Mark's "failure" to go 60 days without sex must mean, dare I say it, that he's unable to have sex? Am I right?

Nope. I suggest you hunt down someone by the name of Christine Frickle for the answer to this brainteaser. She was the only AA reader who figured out what I meant by "failure." Congratulations, Christine!

Is Grey's going to suffer now that the spinoff is on the way? Will the writers be pulling double duty?
Grey's writer Mark Wilding tells me the spinoff would probably be staffing "new writers," rather than cannibalizing the Grey's staff. And great news for Buffy fans, it looks like former BTVS boss Marti Noxon has been tapped to run the spinoff.
This Gizzie thing is really pissing me off. Tell me George will come clean with Callie this week.
Sorry, but their secret will stay hidden from Callie for at least a few more weeks, though she knows something's not right.
Are Cristina and Burke really going to get married?
They really are going to make it to the altar in the season finale, and the wedding will be everything Cristina did not want, as evidenced by that hilarious pic above! She'll wear a big dress, have bridesmaids and be writing her own vows. So much for the justice of the peace.

This article from TVGuide.com sheds some more light on the rumor of whether or not Sara Ramirez (Callie O'Malley) will be leaving Grey's Anatomy after this season or not:

Although her lips are sealed about [her CD's] sound, Ramirez — who has already inked a contract with Universal Music Group — did reveal that she’d spend her summer break from Grey’s in the studio recording the album.

But the Mexico native did let a few details slip about the love triangle brewing between George, Callie and Izzie. “Callie is just showing up doing her job, oblivious to everything,” says Ramirez. So will she call it quits after discovering George slept with ex-model Izzie? “I think she knows her relationship with George is in sort of a delicate place,” she hints. “But she’s a strong lady. She knows what she wants so I’m sure she’ll go to any lengths to get it!”

Hopefully, this means we’ll see more of Callie next season — but Ramirez isn’t talking just yet. “Am I back next season?” she asks with a laugh. “Maybe. This character’s just been so much fun to play. Acting with this group of people has been a master class in episodic television. For now, I’m just enjoying the ride.”
